Hello everyone
I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend thanks to the Matariki day holiday on Friday.
On Tuesday we had a good number of members at our Club Forum where we discussed the planned community projects and fundraisers for the year ahead and thankyou to all of those members that attended.
On Tuesday our guest speaker will be John Collins from the Omaui Landcare Charitable Trust. I look forward to hearing about the good work John and the Trust volunteers do to preserve the bird life and enhance the 240ha area which backs onto the YMCA camp at Omaui.
On Wednesday I had the pleasure to attend the Rotary Club of Invercargill South change over, where Andrea Murchland took the chains from acting club president Kevin Mulrooney.
Thank you for the invitation to attend the "Wild West" themed event and it was great evening and good to catchup with a few familiar faces and it was nice to be sitting beside long time Rotarian Brian Simon, and hearing his story about his business as the original owner of the Deep South and Manda ice-cream brands which were manufactured in Invercargill employing 40 staff when in full production.
DG Dave gave a brief update on the "Cans for a cause" campaign saying so far 4000 cans had been collected by only 12 clubs with more to still report back, and I'm looking forward to hearing the final tally from NZ wide.
My thanks goes to everyone who helped collect the cans from our clubs sites during the week and especially Ross Wensley for coordinating those collections.
I took a box of cans we collected from SGHS to the Salvation Army depot and they were so grateful for the donation which made me proud to know that this was another way Rotary makes a difference in our local community.
