Weekly Letter:
Wellington Visit at short notice:
I had one of those spur of moment queries “are you going to the Southland Party at Wellington on Friday you should come!” said Ria, at the last Rotary meeting. So shortly after this I had two air fares booked and at a nice central Hotel. We left early on the 6.00am flight Friday morning direct arriving by 8.10am and then shortly to our Hotel. I have been to Wellington many times on business but not with Flo and we took time to chill out and simply enjoy the town. Its great to get around as its so central there as there is no need to have any car as one could walk everywhere.
We had a great time at the Southland Party on the Friday night and a nice sleep in on the Saturday morning. Most young people love Wellington as its vibrant and easy to navigate, the weather was perfect and we progressed around all the central museums and enjoyed the soon to be removed Peter Jackson”s great war display, now why would the Massey University want to remove such a display when younger people would regard and respect this as a record of their NZ heritage. Its a shame how bureaucrats seem to make decisions for their own good rather than the greater good for all.
We had a pleasant time with past member Peter and Diana Halsted both in the city and around Wellington with a visit to their home and then they kindly dropped us off on to the airport late on Sunday afternoon for the direct flight home to invercargill.
Yes a great weekend in every way, weather, city, company and friends except the cost of the last minute air bookings which are so prohibitive and rather unnecessary and an unfortunate part of living in Invercargill.
Graeme McMillan
