It was with absolute pleasure that Book Sale Committee chairman Richard Russell handed over a $15,000 cheque to Youthline Southland on June 27, 2023.
Rotary Club of Invercargill holds an annual book sale, and a portion of the sale proceeds was donated to Youthline that is dedicated to helping youth in the south.

“The sale is something the public look forward to every year, but as a Rotary Club one of the most enjoyable parts of the sale is having funds to donate to worthwhile organisations in the south,” Russell said.

During the years, the club has donated more than $1million back to organisations in the south during the previous 42 events it has held.

Youthline Southland Community Activation Manager Krista Farley says the organisation is incredible grateful to Rotary for its support this year.

“On behalf of Youthline Southland I want to thank you for choosing us as the main recipient of this year’s Book Sale. We have so many great things happening that are only possible because of support like yours,” Krista says.

Youthline provides support, information, crisis intervention and referrals for young people in our community. It is a free 24/7 helpline staffed by trained helpline counsellors.

The donation was presented on the official Changeover evening held by the club which honours the outgoing president, while the president-elect takes on their official duties.

After two years as Club President Lisa-Maree Fleck stepped down and Chami Abeysinghe began her term as the new president.

The Book Sale takes all year to plan, and books are already being stored and collected ready to be presented at next year’s sale in 2024.
