The Rotary clubs in Invercargill together with the Southland Business Chamber are proud to collaborate to bring a “Meet the Candidates” evening for the public to hear from Invercargill Electorate candidates standing in the October General Election.

The clubs are hosting the candidate evenings as a means of community service, which is a core part of Rotary’s service above self motto.

Rotary Club of Invercargill President Chami Abeysinghe says the public will have the opportunity to ask candidates questions during the hour-long event.

“We’re asking the community to ‘save the date’ and come along to the joint event which is a joint project by all Rotary clubs in our area including, Rotary North, Rotary South, Rotary East and Sunrise,” she says.

The Invercargill Candidates speaking on the night are:
Liz Craig (Labour), Scott Donaldson (ACT New Zealand), David Kowalewski (New Zealand Loyal), Penny Simmonds (National) and Judith Terrill (Vision New Zealand).

Kevin O'Connell (Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party) is also a candidate, but unfortunately cannot attend on the night and has put in an apology.

“Democracy plays an important role in society and it’s important people are well informed, and I would encourage everyone who is eligible to vote to do so on October 14,” Chami says.

If you have questions about the evening, please email Rotary Club of Invercargill committee chairman Peter Dunn dunnznorth@xtra.co.nz
