Tēnā koutou katoa,
July 18 was a very special day for me as I had the privilege of inducting not one but two new members to our club.
It was wonderful to welcome both Arsalan Abdollahi and Heather-Lynn Potgieter to our Rotary whānau and I look forward to working with them during the year on various projects and events.
Our guest speaker that day was Beyond 2025 project lead Bobbi Brown who spoke about the work she has undertaken during the past 18 months.
If you missed the presentation, the document is attached to my message.
Bobbi successfully launched the Beyond 2025 long-term plan for Southland, which has highlighted important and pressing priorities, the region needs to address. Bobbi highlighted two areas for us to be aware of:
- The Circle Diagram – this represents the three areas of focus including enablers and guiding principles
- The five enablers that will ensure that our long-term vision is achieved. These include housing, workforce, data, energy, and regulatory & planning.
Bobbi also spoke briefly on the three areas of focus which are people, economy and the environment.
In the coming week we will have the Club Forum at Great South. At this forum I hope to further discussions about our projects for the year and gain consensus on what we hope to do and achieve this year.
On a final note, I attended my first Rotary Presidents Meeting, which was hosted by Assistant District Governor Sharon Hamilton.
All the clubs are looking at collaborating to get an international project under way.
This is something I would encourage all club members to give consideration to and please email me directly with ideas that you have, or bring them along to the forum.
My email is chami.abeysinghe.rotary@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and I look forward to seeing you next week.
