Jingo - Musical Bingo Night
Apr 26, 2023 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM

Come and have some 'fun' with us whilst helping us fundraise - great prizes and raffles to be won.

Grab some friends, family and/ or work mates and make a night of it for a good cause.

What:                   Rotary Invercargill Jingo Night

When:                  Wednesday 26th April - 6.30pm for 7pm start

Where:                 Waikiwi Tavern (181 North Road)

Cost:                    $5 per card per round x 4 rounds = $20

Jingo is just like Bingo but replaces the numbers with music.

Listen closely as the song snippets provide a clue as to the name of the song. Once the title or artist of the song is figured out and found on the game card, it gets marked off.

5 squares in a row = Line

20 squares = full house

All proceeds to go to The Sir John Kirwan Foundation - Mitey

Jingo nights are popular so book a table by phoning Waikiwi directly on 03 2159080 so you dont miss out!

Ali Undorf-Lay

Aquaculture

May 23, 2023

Ali is the Industry Liaison Manager at Sanford in Bluff and is passionate about the sea and keen to take the mystery out of what happens when a vessel disappears behind the horizon line and starts catching fish. Ali says "if people know where we work and why we do things the way we do, and that our industry is science based and sophisticated, it’s not such a big jump to think we take the challenge of responsible fishing seriously."   While not born into a fisher family, Ali cares deeply about the coast and the wellbeing of our communities supported by the sea.

In her job as Industry Liaison Manager at Sanford, a large New Zealand seafood company, Ali is a conduit between Sanford's people, the ocean environment and other marine users – officials, seafood companies, eNGOs, dolphins. Sanford’s goal is ocean leadership; to be the world’s best seafood company which means continually striving for excellence, looking beyond the first solution to find the best.

Sanford is New Zealand's oldest and largest seafood company - they farm salmon and mussels and hold 19.7% of New Zealand commercial fishing quota. Sanford has been listed on the New Zealand stock market since 1924, and is focused on sustainability and on maximising the value of the resources gathered from our oceans, enabling long term value creation from oceans teeming with life. Sanford sites can be found in 13 locations around New Zealand and they are a team of 1,400 staff and sharefishers across the country.  Committed to innovation, our scientists are on a mission to find new ways to make the most of the life-enhancing properties of seafood, from anti-inflammatory supplements to skin-nurturing collagen.

Brett Solvander

The spread of misinformation in the modern age

Jun 13, 2023

Brett Solvander has spent a career in media and communications, with television production being a part of this, but he is better known as a public relations practitioner, who has worked in various senior communications roles in both the public and private sectors, here and overseas. Brett has also worked for government ministers as a ministerial press secretary and established his own communications consultancy in the mid 1990’s with business partner and wife, Wilma Falconer.

In his presentation Brett will focus on the spread of misinformation in the modern age and how we as information consumers can navigate propaganda, lies and fake news to get to the truth. This  subject has meaning for everyone interested in getting to what we understand to be the undiluted facts so that we can make well informed decisions for ourselves and for those we care about
